OP (first post) charted the top 100 Naruto ships on AO3 and just for fun I did the same thing with the True: OTP filter on AO3. The True: OTP filter basically filters fics so the selected relationship tag is the only one that appears in the filtered fics.

Most of the top 50 ships are basically the same just in some different orders, but theres were quite a few drops completely from the original list to mine:  Itachi/Izumi (43), Hinata/Ino (42), Minato/Kakashi (42), Kurama/Naruto (42), Neji/Sasuke(37), Shikaku/Yoshino (37), Konan/Nagato (33), Sasuke/Ino (32), Kiba/Sakura (30), Tsunade/Naruto (29), Gaara/Neji (27), Gaara/Sasuke (25), Sasuke/Naruko (24), Konan/Yahiko (21), Tsunade/Dan (23), Rock Lee/Tenten (17), Chouji/Karui (14).

As a bisexual living for tigerghost I can’t help but imagine Sam and Frida as well, like goth/punk gfs. That’s so powerful. At the very least they must get along right and holy fuck they have to be dogging in Manny and Danny.

That time when your ex-boyfriend hook ups with a guy from another universe so you pull the ultimate power move and hook up his boyfriend's goth ex-girlfriend.

Sam and Frida would absolutely spend the nights when they're all hanging out together just dragging Manny and Danny through the dirt (with love). They spent years being part of the sassy sidekick gang, so you know that their smack talking game is peak. They immediately call out Manny and Danny any time either of them starts being affectionate with the other, and then the boys would start shooting back.

Meanwhile, Tucker is brooding in the corner wondering why he keeps agreeing to hang out with them when he knows he's just going to become the fifth wheel.

GemPearl fans, you have absolutely deserved this win and it has been incredible to witness your journey to victory!

All I can say now is that people have spoken and 2023 is the year of YURI!!!

Have you ever done an analysis of which fandoms are most dominated by a single ship?

I hadn't done so before. I just took a quick pass at doing so, but only among the biggest fandoms on AO3 as of Jan 2024 (ones with over 10K public works at that time). I sorted them by the size of their biggest ship relative to the size of the fandom. This gives us a bunch of very big fandoms with a high % of works tagged with a particular ship:

A few notes:

This is based on January 2024 data. Some things may have changed!

Not all these works are necessarily about these ships. Especially in the cases where the ships are canon, they may often be tagged as background ships.

There are undoubtedly many smaller AO3 fandoms that have higher percentages devoted to the top ship.

I removed some highly overlapping fandoms (e.g., Good Omens book fandom).

This is AO3 data only, and (as always!) AO3 does not represent fandom overall. In particular, ship popularity tends to vary A LOT by archive/platform. BDubs, Etho, and Cleo lineups for my sci fi + royalty/bodyguard fic series, Exogenesis! The clothing aspects of these designs are pretty loose as I'm no fashion designer, so if anyone making art wants to do something else and take artistic liberties, please do!

These three are rocking some classic fashion sensibilities popular on Leto! BDubs and Cleo, as the (sibling) monarchs, tend to wear clothes akin to classic european military uniforms, though skirts and wraps are also integrated into this style. These clothes are often seen at diplomatic meetings and formal public appearances.

Their casual clothes, seen on the very right side, tend to be loose fitting and made of natural fibers like cotton. Letotians love flowy and soft fabrics.

Etho's fashion sense is largely practical. The second figure to the far right is his common guard uniform, with reinforced, soft armor in vital places. His casual look, also on the right, employs more sleek, techy wear more popular in south Nereus. You can also see this styling in Cleo's outfit on the second to the right, which serves no purpose except cunt.
